National Street Tire Challenge

The National Street Tire Challenge is a special Sports Car Club of America sanctioned autocross event open only to cars running street tires. The event provides a unique format where all cars are driving on street tires - no race tires are allowed. The format features only five classes, enhancing the competition, and making a trophy much more meaningful. Winning the National Street Tire Challenge is truly an accomplishment.

With Bridgestone's support, the National Street Tire Challenge has expanded in 2011. The unique format of the event, coupled with the "run what you drove on" nature of the event is appealing to both competitors and sponsors alike. This year the national Street Tire Challenge has more sponsors, more events, more prizes, and as always features unparalleled competition in a fun and friendly environment.

The National Street Tire Challenge started out as a regional event in Milwaukee and has quickly grown to a national series. In 2011 we will have four events, hosted by some of the largest regions in the country. Unlike a typical SOLO event, there are just 5 classes: All Wheel Drive (A); Front Wheel Drive (F); Rear Wheel Drive (R); Muscle (M) for older muscle cars and resto-mods; and finally Touring where cars in SCCA classes ST, STS, STU, and STX shoot it out for the overall PAX win. While the event is more relaxed than a Pro or a Tour (no rule books, impounds or protest committees) it is still very competitive. The huge car class counts means lots of competition. A trophy at the National Street Tire Challenge says a lot about your ability as a driver.

There are over $12,000 in prizes to be awarded at the four events. The prizes are detailed on the "prizes" tab, and include: Bridgestone Tire certificates, Tire Rack gift certificates, Optima Battery certificates, SPS product certificates and sets of Bridgestone RE-11s. Coverage of the events will be provided by Grassroots Motorsports, and all tire certificates will be fulfilled by the Tire Rack. Shell will be on-site providing high performance fuels and motor oils in Mineral Wells and in Milwaukee.

The events will be held at some of the greatest autocross sites in the country: Mineral Wells Airport in Mineral Wells; FedEx Field in Washington DC, Turner Field in Atlanta and Miller Park in Milwaukee. The courses will be fast, challenging and fun. The TX, DC and GA events will be held on a Saturday with a "regular" region event held at the same site the following Sunday. The finale in Milwaukee will be a two-day street tire only event. By offering events on two days, participants can minimize their costs to attend and maximize the number of runs they get in a weekend.

Mark your calendars and join us at as many events as you can. We promise the National Street Tire Challenge will provide a unique format, lots of competition, and lots of prizes. See you there.
